Russian Science Foundation (hereinafter the Foundation) is established in order to provide financial and organizational support for basic research, research training, development of research teams that occupy leading positions in particular fields of science.
The Foundation acts in accordance with the Federal Law of the Russian Federation of November 2, 2013 "On the Russian Science Foundation and Amendments to Certain Legislative Acts of the Russian Federation" and the decisions of the Supervisory Board of the Foundation.
The aim of the Foundation is to achieve objectives of the Strategy of Innovative Development of the Russian Federation for the period up to 2020 approved by Decree of the Federal Government of December 8, 2011 № 2227-p, of the State Program of the Russian Federation "Development of Science and Technology", approved by Decree of the Federal Government of December 20, 2012 № 2433-p, and the Long-term Program of Basic research in the Russian Federation (2013-2020), approved by the Decree of the Federal Government of December 27, 2012 № 2538-p.
The Foundation provides grant funding on a competitive basis for basic research in the following fields of knowledge:
1 Mathematics, Computer and Systems Sciences;
2 Physics and Space Sciences;
3 Chemistry and Materials Science;
4 Biology and Life Sciences;
5 Basic Research for Medicine;
6 Agricultural Sciences;
7 Earth Sciences;
8 Humanities and Social Sciences;
9 Engineering Sciences.
The Foundation's mission is to identify most promising and ambitious scientific projects, most effective and efficient scientists who are able to rally teams of like-minded people, to educate the younger generation of Russian scientists engaged in research at the highest international level. The winners of the Foundation’s competitions, subject to the relevance of their achievements for the world science, Russian economy and society, can obtain long-term financial support for their research.
