Russia's new Presidential research prize winners announced

The Russian President Vladimir Putin signed Executive Order On Awarding the 2020 Presidential Prize in Science and Innovation for Young Scientists. Several outstanding young scientists with excellent RSF-funded project records became the latest laureates of this most prestigious national award for young scientists.

The annual President’s prize for excellent young researchers open to excellent researchers from all disciplines was established in 2008. The recipients of that Russia's most highly endowed science awards have been chosen for contribution to advancing Russian science, for creating new equipment and technology that can boost the innovative development of the economy and social sphere, as well as for strengthening national defence. Each prize winner will receive prize money of 5 million Russian rubles.

The names of the new laureates were announced at a special news conference by the Presidential Aide, Chairman of the RSF Supervisory Board Andrei Fursenko on February 8.

Kirill Antonets, PhD in Biological Sciences, RSF-funded project investigator, senior researcher at the All-Russian Research Institute of Agricultural Microbiology, and Anton Nizhnikov, PhD in Biological Sciences, RSF-funded project investigator, leading researcher at the All-Russian Research Institute of Agricultural Microbiology, were awarded or the discovery of amyloid proteins in plants and symbiotic bacteria, and the description of their functional importance;

Yevgenia Dolgova, PhD in Biological Sciences, senior researcher at the Institute of Cytology and Genetics of the Siberian branch of RAS, Yekaterina Potter, PhD in Biological Sciences, senior researcher at the Institute of Cytology and Genetics of the Siberian branch of RAS, Anastasia Proskurina, PhD in Biological Sciences, senior researcher at the Institute of Cytology and Genetics Siberian branch of RAS were awarded for formulating a new ideology to treat patients with malignant tumours based on a time-coordinated performance of innovative medication with nucleic acids and cross-linked cytostatic agents;

Vladimir Maksimenko, PhD in Physics and Mathematics, RSF-funded project investigator, senior researcher at Innopolis University -  for the development of invasive and non-invasive brain-computer interfaces for monitoring normal and pathological brain activity;

The award for Yevgeny Khaidukov, PhD in Physics and Mathematics, RSF-funded project investigator, head of the laboratory of the Federal Research Center “Crystallography and Photonics” of the Russian Academy of Sciences was conferred for fundamental research into nanocrystals having anti-Stokes luminescence and the development of advanced technologies on their platform.

The review of the nominations for the prize in accordance with the Executive Order of the Russian President was carried out by the Russian Science Foundation, thus ensuring the highest possible level of objectivity in the selection process.
