The foundations agreed to launch a joint collaboration for proposals in all fields of science based on equality and mutual benefit to support 3-years collaborative research projects with possible co-funding from industrial partners in both countries. This funding program aims to bring together relevant and competitive researchers from Russia and Vietnam to design and carry out internationally visible and highly integrated research projects. Funds to be used by the Vietnamese side must be requested from NAFOSTED; funds to be used by the Russian side must be requested from RSF. The partnership also envisions sustainable cooperation, regular information exchange on project implementation, and a strong focus on protecting intellectual property and ensuring the effective use of research results.

"The Russian Science Foundation has been successfully running a cooperation program with the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology  (VAST) for two years now, which resulted in 18 three-year research projects in natural sciences. The total amount of funding from the RSF over these years has exceeded 140 million rubles", says the Deputy General Director of the Foundation Andrei Blinov. “New partnership with NAFOSTED Foundation strengthens our strategic cooperation with Vietnam further, engaging many universities with good quality research in both countries that enjoy traditional ties and focusing competitive funding on more targeted research projects in agreed priority areas".

By the end of this year, the two sides will be actively working to agree on priority areas and a schedule for the first joint call for proposals in 2026.
