“The launch of our program of cooperation with NSFC precedes the beginning of years of Russian-Chinese scientific, technical and innovation cooperation in 2020 and 2021 declared by Russian President Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping and fills them with practical and highly productive activities. In addition to the fight against a new coronavirus infection and the consequences of the pandemic crisis, scientists in Russia and China face many other great research challenges that require joining our efforts”, commented the head of the Russian Science Foundation regarding this new bilateral initiative. “ We decided to focus our new funding program on ensuring the highest research quality as well as on attracting talented young researchers in both countries to contribute to the joint projects.”
The first call for 3-year project proposals is planned to be announced shortly in June this year with the announcement of the winners before the end of 2020 and start of funding for selected projects in January 2021. The winners will be selected based on the results of an independent assessment of proposals in accordance with the rules and procedures established by the RSF and NSFC.
The National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) is the largest basic research funder in China. 44,504 new NSFC awards were granted to over 1500 host institutions in 2018, and most of these awards went to individuals or groups of investigators.
