RSF launches new program for outstanding scientists in overseas

RSF released two new funding schemes for established, leading researchers in overseas who want to conduct long-term, ground-breaking and ambitious research in Russia in 2025–2029.

The schemes are open to all fields of research; researchers of any nationality may apply. Foreign or Russian scientists living abroad who are not tax residents of the Russian Federation at the time of application submission are eligible to apply. 

Applicants pursuing basic and exploratory research can request a budget of up to 50 million Russian rubles (approximately 500 000 USD) annually for 5 years with possibility of competitive extension for additional 3 years. There is also possibility for additional co-funding by industrial partner. 

Applicants pursuing applied research can request a budget of up to 80 million Russian rubles (approximately 800 000 USD) annually for 5 years with possibility of competitive extension for additional 3 years. Applied research projects require at least 10% of co-funding by industrial partner.

The grants cover work of a project team consisting of 7-30 researchers with share of young scientists of at least 40%.

The successful applicants will take responsibility to conclude employment contract of non-distant mode with respective grant hosting organizations on the condition that they perform on-site research for the period of at least 90 days each year (at least 60 days in 2025).

Proposals can be submitted until 4 April 2025 with results announced in early June 2025.
