Russia's new Presidential research prize winners announced

The Russian President Vladimir Putin signed Executive Order On Awarding the 2024 Presidential Prize in Science and Innovation for Young Scientists. Several outstanding young scientists with excellent RSF-funded project records became the latest laureates of this most prestigious national award for young scientists.

The annual President’s prize for excellent young researchers open to excellent researchers from all disciplines was established in 2008. The recipients of that Russia's most highly endowed science awards have been chosen for contribution to advancing Russian science, for creating new equipment and technology that can boost the innovative development of the economy and social sphere as well as for strengthening national defense. Each of prizewinners will receive prize money of 5 million Russian rubles.

The names of the latest laureates were announced at a special news conference by the Presidential Aide, Chairman of the RSF Supervisory Board Andrei Fursenko on February 5.

Vadim Popkov (born in 1988), Head of the Laboratory of Materials and Processes of Hydrogen Energy at the Ioffe Physical-Technical Institute RAS, and Kirill Martinson (born in 1994), Senior Research Fellow were awarded for their work on technology for producing multicomponent ferrites and creating ceramic products based on them to solve problems of import substitution and advanced development in the field of microwave electronics.

Elena Korochkina (born in 1988), Professor of the Department of Genetic and Reproductive Biotechnology of the St. Petersburg State University of Veterinary Medicine received the prize for the work she has done in the development of innovative methods for the effective implementation of the genetic and reproductive potential of animal husbandry in Russia.

Natalia Cherkashina (born in 1988), leading researcher at the Belgorod State Technological University named after Shukhov was awarded for the creation of highly effective radiation-protective composites to ensure the safety of astronauts and electronic equipment of spacecraft.

The review of the nominations for the prize in accordance with the Executive Order of the Russian President was carried out by the Russian Science Foundation, thus ensuring the highest possible level of objectivity in the selection process.
