As part of the Future Technologies Forum, RSF organized a session “Creating the Foundation for the Future” moderated by Aide to Russian President Vladimir Putin, Chairman of the RSF Supervisory Board Andrei Fursenko. The discussion participants are focusing on new materials and chemistry. This year marks the launch of a national technological leadership project titled New Materials and Chemistry. Its goal is to develop infrastructure and create conditions for the production of chemicals and biotechnological products, advanced composite materials, as well as rare and rare-earth metals.

The RSF-led session featured the Foundation's grant recipients who presented the results of their work in biochemistry, pharmacology, energy, ecology and materials science, and discussed catalysts for industry development that will ensure technological leadership.

Attending the RSF session were Mikhail Varfolomeev from Kazan Federal University; Vera Vil from Zelinsky Institute of Organic Chemistry, RAS; laureate of the 2024 Russia’s Presidential Prize in Science and Innovation for Young Scientists Vadim Popkov from Ioffe Physical-Technical Institute, RAS; Sogata Santra from Ural Federal University; Ekaterina Skorb from ITMO University; Sergey Tutov, Director of Research and Development, Sibur Holding.

The discussion was also contributed by Alexey Artemyev from the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade; Mikhail Kotyukov, Governor of the Krasnoyarsk Region; laureate of the 2024 Presidential Prize in Science and Innovation for Young Scientists Kirill Martinson from the Ioffe Physics and Technology Institute of RAS; laureate of the 2022 Presidential Prize in Science and Innovation for Young Scientists Irek Mukhamatdinov from Kazan Federal University; laureate of the 2022 Presidential Prize in Science and Innovation for Young Scientists Irina Timofeeva from St. Petersburg State University.

Every year, about 15% of all RSF-funded projects represent chemistry and materials science.

In the context of newly launched RSF programs focused on outstanding researchers residing abroad, Dr. of Chem. Sciences Sogata Santra shared his experience of working in Russia with the support of the Russian Science Foundation. He moved to Russia from India 10 years ago, joining a project supported by the Foundation at UrFU. Now Sogata Santra is implementing his third RSF-funded project as PI.

The recording of discussion is available here https://future-forum.tech/forum//

Chairman of the Russian Science Foundation’s Expert Council, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Alexander Klimenko has also accompanied and provided explanations to Russian President Vladimir Putin in the course of his visit to the Future Technologies Forum exhibition. The display is devoted to country’s achievements in the fields of chemistry and new materials.
